Perhaps if she didnt have to work twelve hours a day out in the cold, digging holes in the ground, she wouldnt have wasted away in front of my eyes. Maybe if she didnt have only a gritty piece of bread to eat or a small cup of water to drink each day, she might have had the strength to go on. But she did. Holocaust DiaryDear diary, It has only been four months since we first arrived at this death camp yet my sister, Eva, and I are the only ones left of our family. Mother was selected against and sent to the gas chambers upon arriving. Father fell ill a few weeks later and quickly joined her. Now I fear for Eva who has gotten so weak and frail these past weeks, becoming little more than a living skeleton. Her bones are visible beneath her skin, her face has taken on a deathly pallor, and her eyes are dull and dim.
